No contact day 17: the mutual friend
By week three the social side arrives: someone mentions them, an invitation overlaps, a photo appears where you weren't expecting one.
What goes wrong on day 17
Second-hand information is the door most people never think to close, and it delivers precisely the details that restart the loop.
None of that is a prediction about you specifically. Day 17 looks different depending on how long you were together, who ended it, and how many times you've tried before — this is the shape it takes most often, and the part of it worth preparing for.
One thing to do today
Tell one person, plainly, that you'd rather not hear updates for a while. It is a shorter and less awkward conversation than you're imagining, and it closes a door you can't close alone.
A slip costs a day. The spiral after it — "I've ruined it, why bother" — is what costs the month. If today didn't go the way this page describes, that's information about which door is still open, not a verdict on whether you can do this.
