No contact day 2: the adrenaline drop
Something flattens on day 2. The shock that carried you through yesterday runs out, and what's underneath is duller and heavier — less panic, more weight. People often describe day 2 as worse than day 1 and are surprised by it.
What goes wrong on day 2
The flatness reads as evidence: this is what the rest of my life feels like. It isn't. It's the second day of an adrenaline drop, and it is a famously unreliable narrator.
None of that is a prediction about you specifically. Day 2 looks different depending on how long you were together, who ended it, and how many times you've tried before — this is the shape it takes most often, and the part of it worth preparing for.
One thing to do today
Eat something and go to bed at a normal hour. That's genuinely the assignment. Day 2 is a physiology day, and treating it as a philosophy day is how people end up texting at midnight.
A slip costs a day. The spiral after it — "I've ruined it, why bother" — is what costs the month. If today didn't go the way this page describes, that's information about which door is still open, not a verdict on whether you can do this.
